100 Days of Being Geek Chic and Healthy Ends

On Tuesday 100 Days of Being Geek Chic and Healthy comes to an end. There are so many things that I wanted to for the 100 days, but like anything life gets in the way. I am planning for next year, I hope more bloggers will participate in this project next year. I hope to start this project up again next may when everything seems slower.
I'd like to thank all of my fellow female geek bloggers for a project that I hope grows to more people next year.
Thank you Meli, Freyja, Ari, Alex, Emily and Kerry for being part of the first year of this project.

Here are some things that I hope to do next year:

  • Start the project again in may early June
  • Create a 100 Days of Being Geek Chic and Healthy Pledge
  • Create a survival box
  • Start a newsletter
  • and so much more!
I hope many of you will join this project next year. I really want to expand this project for years to come.

Body Love: My Birthmark

A few weeks ago I had asked the other bloggers who are participating in 100 Days of Being Geek Chic and Healthy if they would share about their scars, imperfections and birthmarks and say what they love about it. I had so many things to choose from my freckles to the crack in my nail to my long toes.
But the one thing that I chose was, my birthmark.
My birthmark is the one thing I can't imagine my life without. It is a 1-2 inch oval shape, that sits above my right foot. Most of the time people don't notice because I normally have sock on when I wear my tennis shoes.
Sometimes I say it's a bit annoying to have it there. People ask me "why don't you get it removed?" To be honest, I may complain about it occasionally but I can't imagine a single day that I don't know that it's there.
When I was little I would try to cover it up, but know I pretty much walk barefoot as much as I can. This is one my imperfections that I will also love, others my think it's weird, but it is what makes me, well me.

100 Days of BGC&H Week 2 Challenge: Heroic Women

Moving towards the geek side of things, I have asked the other bloggers and even myself; Who do you idolize?

Women characters in past few decades have become stronger figures in our culture. Previously known as the Damsel in distress, are now the saviors of mankind. I chose Wonder Woman as example of one of those figures in culture that has become an influence in our world.

If you take a look at women in history; women who were noticed were the ones that pushed the boundaries of the world of men. These women were able to keep their standing within history or were erased.

There were two parts that I asked for this challenge:

 1) Choose three women that inspire you. Two from comic books, sci-fi, fantasy, novels, video games, anime. One woman from History. Why do these women inspire you?

     2) Create a three outfits based on all three. (one each)

If any other bloggers would like to try this challenge, go on ahead. Please send me a link, I would love to who you chose.

100 Days of Being Geek Chic and Healthy Week 1 Challenge: The Home Round Up

On Thursday and Friday, two guest posts on the challenge of the week. Today I will round the posts on the challenge on the home.

Ari

Ari did a review of her favorite organization app called Task Hammer where you experience points like an internet game for your tasks you need to do. Check out the entire post. If I had an iPhone I would totally try this out.

Alex

Alex describes how she keep her desk organized and what she does to keep her on task. You can check out the post on her blog.

Freyja

Freyja describes her attempts to stay organized. You can see more here. I can compare myself to Frejya, I attempt to stay organized but does mean I can.

Next week I'm having an exciting challenge. And I can't wait to see what these ladies have for the  next challenge.

Thanks for all your help ladies!

Guest Post: 100 Day's of Geek Chic and Healthy: The Bedroom from Emmpossible

After seeing Ariel’s (Nerdy Birdie) 100 Days of Geek Chic and Healthy theme, I couldn’t help but be interested. Fitness and eating right have both been well established in my life (with a cheat day here and there, of course), but my inner-geek isn’t as strong as it once was. This challenge will hopefully step up my geek chic game with inspiration, and I hope to be able to inspire you with different workout and recipe ideas.
Currently being without a bedroom and getting ready to move into one, this week’s The Bedroom theme has gotten me to think exactly how to layout my living space. In the house I am preparing to move into, my room has previously been lived in by a 10 year old girl. What does that mean?
All pink walls.

*Insert horror music here*
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind pink. However, having pink stare me in the face from every direction is too much. Even when I was 8 years old.
Before moving into the overdose of pink room, there will be a paint day. While I do enjoy reds, oranges as well as purples, having a room completely either of these colors sounds like an overload as well. Instead, there will be an accent wall or two with a red or purple and the other walls painted white.

Layout wise, I’ve got about 10×10 space to play with. I am moving from a larger location, so I’ve been going through my things and deciding what I need and what I can leave in storage.

And then, there’s what this whole challenge is about.

I am geek and I am proud.
People should walk into someone’s room and see what that someone is about.

I AM GEEK AND I AM PROUD.
Decorating wise, I have several Funko POP! figures to decorate with. These will either go on my bookshelves or on my desk. There is also the Harry Potter souvenirs I brought back from Universal that will find their home.

Including a few different wall-art posters, I have several running medals from races and marathons I would like to hang on my wall. Like the photo below, I would like to have a rod to place them on while having a few different running mementos above it. Sonic will more than likely find his way up there somehow.

Cosplay wise, I already have a drawer dedicated to my costume items. This shoe wall would also be great to place those out of place shoes as well as my numerous active shoes and dress shoes I never seem to wear.
What do you have in your room that signifies your interests? Do you keep your cosplay items out or do you have a storage system you place everything in?

Welcome Ladies to 100 Days of Being Geek Chic and Healthy!

I'd like to introduce you guys to the Ladies that are helping me with this project. They are wonderful Ladies that wish to discover who they are during this project.

 Name: Meli
  Age: 32
What made you interested in this project? : I was made to feel ashamed a lot of the time for my geeky interests and tendencies as I grew up, and even more so as an adult ("that's kid stuff"). I love the idea of empowering females of the geeky persuasion on all fronts. There is nothing wrong with being geeky! :)
What do you geek about? : Oh, where to begin! Doctor Who, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Sherlock, Sailor Moon, LOST, My Little Pony

Name: Freyja G (on the right in the picture.)
Age: 18

What made me interested in this project: I love the idea of different people that may be strangers coming together and completing challenges on topic areas that they love and are passionate about. I also love the idea of educating others about what it is to be a Geek girl!

What do I geek about?: Put it this way, far too many things! I love Marvel and the films of the Marvel universe, my favourites being Thor (1&2), the Avengers and the Iron Man trilogy. I also love J R R Tolkien and his works of the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I also love Sherlock and David Tennant's era of Dr Who. I have a very excessive love for Tom Hiddleston!

Name: Emily
Age: 25
Blog: Emmpossible (emmpossible.com)
What made you interested in this project? : Ever since being bitten by the bug years ago, I enjoy challenging my body from heavy weight training to running marathons. I am also a geek, but haven't felt quite as into comics and games for awhile as I have been in the past. I would love to share my passion of fitness and food while being inspired by fellow geek chic ladies.
What do you geek about? : Specifics? Adventure Time, Arrow, cosplay, Marvel & DC universe comics (into Matt Fraction's Hawkeye at the moment), Harry Potter, The Walking Dead, video games (especially the Nintendo kind)

  Name: Alex Kay
Age: 25
What made you interested in this project? : I love connecting with fellow geeky girls online! And I'm also really looking forward to sharing my tips and learning from the other gals. I'm always up for improving myself and living a more healthy lifestyle.
What do you geek about? : My #1 fandom is Doctor Who - I'm totally obsessed. I'm also a big fan of Star Wars, comics (Deadpool and The Runaways are two of my faves!), horror films, Sailor Moon, makeup, fashion, traveling, and a whole host of movies, TV shows, and books.

  Name: Ari
         Age: 21
       Blog: Comics and Cookies
What made you interested in this project? : I became interested in this project because like Ariel, I was feeling about down in the dumps. I have a long, boring summer ahead of me with little to do and little money to spend on doing fun things, and an ongoing blogging project would keep me on my toes. I’m new to The Nerdy Birdie, but I absolutely love her site and her posts. I think it’s a great idea to combine nerdiness and positivity together, and I’m looking forward to starting this project!
·         What do you geek about? : Oh gosh, all sorts! Video games, Adventure Time/cartoons in general, films, comic books, TV shows, books, writing… the list goes on! I’m currently watching the original Sailor Moon series and nerding out over that, as well as playing through Gears of War, Resident Evil 5 and Aliens: Colonial Marines (It's awful, I know. Don't judge!) with my boyfriend, who I affectionately dub Boyfriend-Wonder. I’m a bit of a word-nerd too, and I love writing and learning new things.

  Name: Kerry Snode
        Age: 22
       Blog: Kerry's Habitat (www.kerryshabitat.blogspot.co.uk)
What made you interested in this project?: Community is what blogging is all about. If that community can provide a positive and enriching environment for other bloggers then I'm always on-board.
What do you geek about?: This list would be too long to write. Being a geek is being passionate about something. You can be a geek about your family or about a comic-book series. My blog is as varied as my interests. I suppose Marvel Comics is the biggest influence on my life.

An Adventure Begins: An Introduction to 100 days of Being Geek Chic and Healthy

Welcome the start of a wonderful 100 days of being geek chic and Healthy.
Why did I start this project?
Everybody has that one moment in their life where they have reached that low point. Where you feel like nothing is going the right way. You don’t know what to do about it. I have found myself at this low point.

Instead of moping around and continuing with this low point, I thought it was time for me to bring my spirits up, not just mine but of others as well we feel like they have a reached this point.

When I was child being a geek was a bit of a burden. My parents always thought it was a phase. The were always the type of people who went to the races during the weekend in town, I was who stayed home, surfing the internet, reading books or watching something on tv, but as moved back to city I left to go community college I found that wasn’t alone at being a geek. My aunt a fellow geek herself helped me understand it wasn’t a phase. Now I embrace it.
The one thing I do have a problem though about being a geek is I am a penniless community college student. I do not own a single geek clothing item that does not include Twilight (that was a phase.) except the shirt with Buffy on it and my Harry Potter Robe that I have since fourth grade. So during this project I will be dealing with what I have.

I created 100 Days of Being Geek Chic and Healthy, not only for me but all geek girls who struggle with who they truly see themselves on the inside. Beautiful and Awesome.

During this Project I will be focusing on different challenges every week, Some may be extended long than a week. I will be having other bloggers contribute to this blog and there own during this project, because I don’t want to just keep this project to myself, I want to here from others about their own journey of 100 Days of Being Geek Chic and Healthy.

Later I will introduce to bloggers will help with this project.
