August Wrap-up and September TBR

August Wrap-up
     I'm bringing my booktube perspective to my blog as well. So I'm going to start with the wrap-up for August. For the month of August I only read one book. I know bad but at least it was something to read. So like I did at my previous post, I have been reading Outlander.
        I was introduced to Outlander by booktuber Sasha of abookutopia. I first watched the show out of curiosity and fell in love with then I decided to read the book. If you have not read the book you are warned.

      When I looked the book up on Good Reads, I was curious on what others think about the book. I saw a lot reviews that were so negative. At this point of the book I was half way through. Most of the comments were spent on the scene of Claire being beaten by Jamie. They ignore the fact that the book was based in the 18th century and focus on the fact that he is abusing his wife. First off, if they actually read the scene correctly they would have noticed that Jamie says before he beats Claire with a belt that he didn't want to do it several times. But considering that she caused a lot of trouble for Jamie and the other men of the Mackenzie Clan, he had to do it for because if she was not punished he would be seen as less of a man. And it was the 18th century! Most people don't understand the fact that the rules were different than they are now. Standards were a lot different than then and if they being read by eyes that are open to the ones now they a lot issues with it. I understand that.
      Over all I loved the book. I know it took me about two months to finish it but, I have been dealing with a lot of issues and so far Outlander has been the only thing that has kept me calm. Even the theme song to the show. So because of this book, It is the year of Outlander.
      I have the second book to the series Dragonfly in Amber, I need to get the third book Voyager before the next season starts.

September TBR

For my September TBR, since school has started for me I am reading a lot of books this semester. I hope to read other books non-school related books to help me out. So I'm going to create a short list of the things I'm reading this month in class and reading outside of class.

The Handmaid's Tale by Margret Atwood
   I'm reading this book for Dystopian class.The class does not including anything like the Hunger Games or The Giver, but focuses more on the aspect of gender within world of dystopian writing. If you don't know what the Handmaid's Tale is about, taken from Goodreads:

Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. She may leave the home of the Commander and his wife once a day to walk to food markets whose signs are now pictures instead of words because women are no longer allowed to read. She must lie on her back once a month and pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, because in an age of declining births, Offred and the other Handmaids are valued only if their ovaries are viable. Offred can remember the years before, when she lived and made love with her husband, Luke; when she played with and protected her daughter; when she had a job, money of her own, and access to knowledge. But all of that is gone now...

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
      I wasn't surprised about this being on my teacher's reading list because earlier this year he published a prequel to one of the characters.
Summary from Goodreads:
      Dark allegory describes Marlow’s journey up the Congo River and his meeting with, and fascination by, Mr. Kurtz, a mysterious personage who dominates the unruly inhabitants of the region. Masterly blend of adventure, character development, psychological penetration. Considered by many Conrad’s finest, most enigmatic story.

Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
    This has been on my TBR list for the past few months. It is the first of the sequels that follow the story of Outlander. This one focuses more on their time in France and their role in the Jacobite rebellion. It also focuses more about twenty years in the future where Claire has returned to her time and has to deal with her daughter who reminds her of the man that she left Jamie Fraser.

A Court of Thorn and Roses By Sarah J. Maas
    I have heard so much about this book, but don't know a lot about it other than the fact that it based off of Beauty and the Beast story. I bought the book at the beginning of the summer and I have been waiting read it.
     So here is the summary on Goodreads:

I know. I know, I'm kind of lazy with the post. With school and everything going on around me I haven't had much time to put the post together the way I wanted to.
